Sikkim’s capital city, Gangtok seems to have become a safe haven for criminals, especially the theft, chain, mobile phone snatchers as incidents of the chain and mobile phone snatching are on rise.
In such incident one case reported from the capital Gangtok town on Tuesday night, where one middle aged man named Tapas Banerjee, resident of Hotel Venus, below High Court, Gangtok was attacked by three unknown persons from behind and thereby snatched away his mobile phone (Redmi 8A dual) and fled away from the spot. The incident took place near Hospital dara below High Court.
Later, the victim filed a written complaint in this connection. Worth mentioning here, at least one chain snatching incident was also reported at Lal Bajaar (Thado Line) last month and one case of theft was also reported from Namnang wherein a cash amounting to Rs. 10,20,000, (ii) gold bangles- 02 nos. weighing 100 gm. & silver coins, silver plates and glass were missing from the Godrej were stolen not only this but many cases of thefts are being reported frequently in Gangtok town.
