Gangtok, Feb 16:
The formal inauguration of the installed Solar Panels at Primary Health Centre, PHC Yuksam under the Green Recovery Pathway for India Program by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in association with the Government of Sikkim along with the support of SECURE Himalayan Project, Sikkim was carried out at the PHC Yuksam today. The District Collector, Gyalshing, Karma R Bonpo graced the event as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the facility.
The inaugural ceremony also had the gracious presence of Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Gyalshing, Dr. Bikash Pradhan; SDM, Yuksam, Shri Tshering T. Bhutia, JD, Education, Yuksam BAC, Pema G Bhutia, State Project Officer, SECURE Himalaya, Sikkim Rajarshi Chakraborty, Project Accociate, Siddharth Nair, Medical Officer in Charge(MOIC), Yuksam PHC, Dr. Roman Pokhrel; Medical Officer, MO, Dr. Nisama Subba, concerned Departmental Officials, Zilla Panchayats, Panchayats, Staffs of the PHC, representatives from the Self Help Group and general public.
Bonpo in his address informed that pandemic had showed the reason for the need of capacity building of PHCs as it is the first place where a preliminary process of health related issues are addressed and health related suggestions are administered. He urged all concerned to keep the importance of PHC at their foremost approach and encouraged to assist PHC to strengthen up with basic facility.
Speaking upon ‘One Health’ of Green Recovery Path Way’ of Government of India, sensitised the concept through exemplating the prevailing Covid 19 scenario and informed on the possibility to mitigate such occurrences in future through integrated approach.
He further informed that keeping in view of the geographical area of the situated PHC, it is the first pilot project with the motive to study and emerged finding would be taken in to account for proper constitution of the future action plan.
Further, he appealed the stake holders for drafting Tourism Policy towards sustainable tourism with the prospect of Highvalue Tourism and Eco Tourism in foremost concern. While, taking example of Bhutan and their efforts interms of reducing carbon footprints in to the country, he encouraged all to have a unique prospective in terms of tourism and motivated for the protection of the heritage through self indulgence.
Further, he pointed out the beneficial aspects of solarization method for the sustainable energy, he urged stake holders to work collectively towards the initative. He also motivated the stakeholders to take lead and work for the benefit of the people of Yuksam. He also assured the required assistance from the District Administration and further, motivated all for their relentless efforts towards the two utmost important sector ‘Education and Health’ for holistic development of the area.
Earlier, SDM, Yuksam, in his address informed that, to mitigate the hardship in future because of the pandemic the kind of assistive approach extended by UNDP is a noble step and termed it to be a commendable one. He praised and thanked UNDP, Sikkim Sector for considering Yuksam PHC into ‘One Health’ Green Recovery Pathway Programme for their efforts for providing the self reliant and an interrupted power supply mechanism in the PHC, which had became the key component and a crucial one after the hardship of pandemic was witnessed.
State Project Officer and Project Associate from UNDP, drew light on the inception of the plan for the project and even sensitized upon the goals and motives behind the initiative.
After formal inauguration, Bonpo along with the accompanied dignitaries visited and observed the functional demonstration of the solar energy mechanism. He also took stock of the requirements needed for the further strengthening of the PHC at Yuksam.
