Sikkim Government is commited to ensure adequate health care facilities: Health Minister MK Sharma

The Health Mela for Gangtok Urban Block was organised by the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim at Community Hall, Opposite Ropeway, Deorali, today.

Minister for Health & Family Welfare Department, Dr. M.K. Sharma graced the event as the chief guest. Also present were Mayor GMC,  Nell Bahadur Chettri, Commissioner cum Secretary Health and Family Welfare Department,  D. Anandan, DG cum Secretary, Health, Dr Pempa T. Bhutia, Doctors and medical staff, Councillors GMC and officials of Health Department.

The Minister in his address reiterated the commitment of the State towards ensuring adequate health care facilities for the Sikkimese people. He mentioned that the purpose of the ongoing health mela right at the block level is to provide basic health care services and to increase health awareness in the State.

He stated that the objective of the Block Health Mela is to build awareness about different health programmes with a focus on Ayushman Bharat Health Wellness and Fitness (ABHWF), facilitate the creation of a Unique Health ID under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) for attendees, facilitate the provision of Ayushman Bharat Card under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), increase the health awareness of people of the State and prevention of various communicable and non-communicable diseases. He called on the public to take optimum benefit of such facilities.

Later, the Minister inspected the displays that were put up by departments such as Women & Child Welfare Department, Culture Department, Sports and Youth Affairs Department and appreciated the efforts made by them.

PMJAY stall for KYC verification, AYUSH stall, and temporary clinics to offer diagnosis and treatments for various ailments were also put up. Teachers and students from Sichey Senior Secondary School, Lingding Junior High School, Higher Senior Secondary School and Burtuk Secondary School also participated in the Urban Health Mela.

The Block Level Health Mela which started on 18th April will continue till 22nd April as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, under the guidance of MoHFW at all the block levels offering health services free of cost to enhance awareness about various health programmes being carried out by the Central Government, State Government, NGOs etc.
