Sikkim Review

Gangtok, Jan 9:

Sikkimey Nagarik Samaj is delighted to learn that a brave Sikkimese local bureaucrat in Jorethang South Sikkim has stopped the process of illegal land transfer fully abiding by the old laws and Article 371F. At a time when Sikkim is reeling under the major threat of influx and outsiders eating up the rights and identity of Sikkimese people, the news of local bureaucrat taking stand in favour of Sikkimese people has given a ray of hope.

The rumour is afloat that those outsiders and influx those who were denied the land registration are teaming up against the said bureaucrat. As such Sikkimey Nagarik Samaj caution all politicians and political parties to refrain from helping influx and outsiders for their pocket vote bank.

Sikkimey Nagarik Samaj assures our brave local bureaucrats that Sikkimey Nagarik Samaj and entire Sikkimese people are in solidarity with them and will extend every support in future. If the politicians and administration tries to bother the officials in any way for taking right step towards protecting the rights and interests of Sikkimese people, we won’t remain quiet.

It is further to apprise the state government that a person whose Certificate of Identification was cancelled by the District Administration and Land Revenue Department is misleading the constitutional head of the state as well as the Prime Minister of India by renaming names of the roads situated in border area jeopardizing the National Security. The person whose citizenship is in question and his illegal COI already cancelled is trying to deceive by misusing his position as Panchayat President of that area. It is surprising that Rural Development Department and State Government failed to remove him from the panchayat membership even after cancellation of his CoI by the District Authority.

Taking advantage of such lackadaisical attitude of state government towards fake documents and influx, the real Sikkimese are losing their identity and rights day by day.

Onus also lies with the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party to clarify as why they are compelled to patronage such fake document holder? If BJP state unit propagate the protection of old laws and Article 371F in Sikkim they should immediately remove such tainted individuals in the interests of Sikkim and in the interest of National Security.

Sikkimey Nagarik demands SKM-BJP alliance government to immediately initiate action and remove him from the Panchayat Membership as well as from the membership of BJP. If they fail to do so, it will be established beyond doubt that both SKM and BJP are against the rights and interests of Sikkimese people as guaranteed under Article 371F. It was informed through press communiqué issued in the name of Tseten Tashi Bhutia, Chief Patron, Sikkimey Nagarik Samaj
