Sikkim Review

Gangtok, July 22:

Covid-19 cases are still not dropping in Sikkim and average positivity rate is at 19 percent in last one week. On top of it 97 samples have been found to be Delta variant out of 98. People have started to panicking in Sikkim.

And to bring down the positivity rate Sikkim health department has ramp up the random testing to bring down the positivity rate in the state. Health department has asked people to go for early testing if any symptoms are observed. Delta variant accounts for 80% of new COVID-19 cases in the country. The variant is also around 40-60 percent more transmissible than its predecessor. Not only this but state government is now containing whole wars and villages if any cases are being reported and testings are being conducted in entire village.

Must tell here North-East states including Sikkim are witnessing an unusual spike in infections and deaths from Covid-19. The recent surge has pushed at least 66 districts of the region into a high-positivity zone. Recently PM Narendra Modi also inquired about the rising trend in positivity rates over video conferencing.

Even though Sikkim has high positivity rate but vaccination coverage is good we have now vaccination percentage of 88 percent (first dose) which is good as compared to other states.

Meanwhile, Sikkim today saw 294 new cases and 2 deaths total death tally reaches 328, total active cases are 2719, and total recovered 21030. Confirmed cases stand at 24341
