Pakyong, April 12 (IPR):
District Collector-Pakyong Tashi Chopel chaired a disaster preparedness coordination meeting at the mini hall of District Administration Centre, Pakyong today.
The main objective of the meeting was to prepare line departments of the newly formed district for disasters like landslides, flash floods, monsoon rainfall, and toppled trees that are causing danger to traffic and pathogens such as dengue fever.
At the onset of the meeting, the DC said that the district should be ready and evolve as we go along to face adversity which comes in the form of monsoon rainfall.
During the meeting, the DC discussed with representatives of line departments from the district. Issues such as road conditions, the number of equipment and manpower during an emergency, shortage of electricity, and removing trees that pose a threat to the general population were discussed at great length. Further, the representatives from various departments stated that they are ready for any challenges as they are equipped with machinery and manpower, and further shall be coordinating each other in case of emergency. It was also discussed that a messenger group will be created to include the stakeholders for immediate response during a disaster.
The DC Pakyong was accompanied by Superintendent of Police- Pakyong, ADC Pakyong, ADC/Dev, ASP, SDM, DPO, Officers from all concerned departments, NHIDCL, GREF, NDRF, Airport Authorities of India representatives.
The meeting concluded with a positive solution where all the departments including road construction companies will be coordinating each other 24/7 in case of emergency for the convenience of the public.
After the meeting ADC Pakyong along with SDM Pakyong, DPO,R.O Pakyong and NHIDCL inspected the vulnerable location along Pakyong -Ranipool road.
