Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) announced increase in the period of maternity leave for teachers from six month to one year from next financial year , it was announced by Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) on the occasion of children’s day celebration and State award to Teachers 2021, which was held at Saramsa, Ranipool today.
Chief minister said “especially mothers after giving birth need one year maternity leave WHO has also suggested this and keeping this in mind we have decided to extend the maternity leave for teachers to one instead of six month and for father one month which was earlier 15 days only. I dont know, I am not sure but one year of maternity leave is not there in entire nation and Sikkim could be the first state to do the same”. Must tell here as per the existing rule mother working in government sector can avail six month of maternity leave while paternity leave is fifteen (15) days.
CM Golay also announced “Sikkim Government to provide vehicles to the Principal of the schools. Teaching is a great service to society, they spread the light of knowledge, we understand that so as a respect to teachers and their contribution retiring teachers from now onward will get their all shares like CPF etc during their retiring day. And they do not have to attend the class three months before their retiring day to complete their documentation work.
CM also said “headmaster or headmistress of junior high school will be considered gazetted officer and soon notification will be issued for the same.
Similarly, CM Golay today also announced that school principals will be provided with government vehicles and to start with, we are immediately providing four vehicles to the principal of four different schools from four different districts that is east, south, north and south districts. And later more principals will be provided with vehicles from next financial years. Chief Minister also declared computer classes for elementary level.
