The Sikkim Cricket Association (SCA) organized a day-long cricket camp/funfair at the Soreng Government B.ED college compound, today. Aditya Golay graced the event as the Chief Guest. 

Accompanying him were Advisor (Sports and Youth Affairs), M.N. Subba, SDM (Soreng), Ranjan Rai, BDO (Soreng), Sabina Subba, SDPO (Soreng), Mahendra Pradhan, AD/ SYA (Soreng), Mamita Gurung and the invited Officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Aditya Golay firstly appraised and congratulated the organizing committee for taking such herculean efforts in scouting and nurturing young and budding talents through innovation and fun. He acknowledged about the contributions and achievements made by the Sikkim Cricket Association (SCA) towards the upliftment of the sport in the State.

He briefly spoke on the issues regarding the excessive engagement of today’s young minds into the usage of electronic media and how it has impacted their day today lives while ignoring to incorporate outdoor physical activities such as sports. He added that the State Government and the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs have been persistent in inculcating sports and it’s importance for our future generation.

Emphasizing on the importance of Sports as a career choice, MLA Golay said that the Youth being the future of our Nation must indulge themselves in exploring such options that are helpful in gaining lucrative financial independence. He also took the opportunity to congratulate  Lopzang G. Tenzing (President SCA) for being appointed as the new Team Manager for Under-19 Indian Cricket Team by the BCCI. 

According to the information provided to the media, the ongoing camp is being organized around the State with an objective to scout new talents especially at grass root levels in order to provide them adequate training at Camps with International coaches. One of the primary purposes of the event is not only to impart information on understanding cricket through different competitive games and activities but also to bring about awareness with regard to the career choices in the sport such as ground curator, physiotherapist, and coaches and so on as per the brief.

The competition was categorized as Under 16, Under 19 and Open while some of the main attractive events were hit the target, Speedo-metre and Catching and Fielding. 

The next two venues that have been selected for the camp are Hee Bermoik and Gyalshing under West district.
