Lungchok-Kamarey GPU builds Mode ICDS centre

At a time children’s enrolment in Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is decreasing in the state but contrary to the trend Lungchok-Kamarey GPU has built a model Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Centre at Middle Lungchok Ward, South Sikkim under Melli constituency, on its own from its limited fund. It was inaugurated by DC South Sikkim M Bharani Kumar attended the event as the Chief Guest.

This is first of its kind which was built by GPU itself. The celebration also had the special presence of Joshua Lama DPO ICDS, Panchayat President Lungchok -Kamarey GPU Deoraj Pradhan, Teachers of ICDS, Panchayats and the rural public were also present at the event. Two rooms ICDS Centre has CCTV installed, with other facilities like kids channel on television, slides, toys, fun books, science corner, kitchen garden. It was constructed at the cost of rupees 3.5 lakh. 

DC M Bharani Kumar called the inauguration of ICDS centre as a pioneer step in south district. Not only has this but Lingchok- Kamarey always took a pioneering steps like women empowerment centre, child friendly centre.  It is also great example of community participation and this has sent a message to other districts too. He also applauded the initiative for managing the fund as there fund constraint but still the GPU has come up this is good initiative. He also said since children brain is in developing phase at this moment and platform like this definitely brings up a progressive change in the education sector as it is base of kids.

While Panchayat President of Lungchok-Kamarey, Deoraj Rai informed “it was initiated to create to provide platform to kids as they need special attention and to facilitate the students to assess quality education in an easy and playful way. He further informed that through ICDS centre immunization and nutrition services for the children would be initiated. He also said to built this centre there was immense community participation so without community help it was not possible and in coming days we will also try to establish such centres in other wards of GPU.

Both DC M Bharani Kumar and Panchayat President Deoraj Rai thanked land owner Purna Bahadur Rai for donating lands and the owner was also felicitated today on the occasion.
