Lockdown extended till 7th June in Sikkim, Licensed Liquor Shops will also allowed to open from 7am to 12pm along with Ration and Vegetable shops


Gangtok, May 30:

A high-level meeting today decided State-wide lockdown will further be extended till 7th June 2021 with more hours of ration and vegetable shops opening time and interestingly government has also decided to keep the Licensed Liquor Shops from 7 am to 12 pm. The meeting was held at Samman Bhawan today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang to review the Covid-19 management in the State. It was also decided that private construction work will also be allowed this time provided local labour force and construction material is on-site but movement of labours are prohibited from place to another. Similarly, construction work for central and state government will also be allowed with local labours.

The meeting was attended by Cabinet Ministers, Mayor & Deputy Mayor GMC, Chief Secretary, DGP, ACS, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Political Secretary to HCM, and officers of the Covid-19 Management Group.

After some deliberation, during the extended week-long lockdown, the operating duration of ration and vegetable shops has been revised and they will now remain open from 7 am to 12 pm (noon), which was earlier 8 to 11 am.

Relaxation has been granted for agricultural activities at GPUs depending on the Covid-19 situation in the respective GPU. It was decided that the centralized construction activities under Roads & Bridges, PMGSY, Sikkim Garib Awaas Yojana, etc., shall be allowed with local labourers only.

The meeting discussed the current scenario of Covid-19 in the State wherein the Health Department updated the house on the various measures undertaken to mitigate issues revolving around vaccination, oxygen supply, care and treatment protocols in the hospitals and functioning of Covid Care Centres across the State.

The meeting reviewed the vaccination status and procurement of additional stock. The volume of oxygen available in the State has also been enhanced, it was informed.

During the meeting,  Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said that the SICB building at Karfectar will be upgraded into a designated Covid-19 Hospital for South and West districts.

A district-level Covid Hospital Set-up Committee will be formed for the up-gradation and monitoring of the Covid Hospital at Karfectar headed by District Collector-South.  The Committee will also monitor the shifting of the SICB office to an alternative available space.

The CM also declared the Health Department, Government of Sikkim and CRH, Manipal to be the only certified agencies for conducting RT-PCR and RAT Tests in the State. He also directed the Health Department to prepare a priority list for the vaccination drive.

Expressing concern over the rate of Covid-19 spread in rural areas, the CM exhorted for active and strict policing and surveillance by local police personnel in villages. He directed the Police Department to take stringent action against those found breaching the Covid-19 guidelines and SOPs.

The Labour Department has been instructed to work in tandem with pharmaceutical companies and industries to ensure the safety of the labourers by creating Covid Care Centres at convenient locations. They have also been directed to mobilise a systematic manpower plan while providing certain relaxation for female workers along with an incentive for daily workers.

Earlier, Chief Secretary SC Gupta, while presenting a brief on the agenda of the meeting, stressed on the need to further strengthen the grassroot level planning in order to achieve success in the fight against Covid-19 in the State.
