Journalist Union of Sikkim today celebrated 170th birth anniversary of Padri Ganga Prasad Pradhan at Golden Tips, MG Marg. Padri Ganga Prasad Pradhan is the first Gorkha journalist and writer of Gorkhali textbooks including the translation of the Bible in the Gorkhali/Nepali language at Golden Tips, MG Marg. The program was held under the chairmanship of Senior Journalist Nita Nirash and Bhim Rawat Presiden of the Journalist Union of Sikkim.
During the welcome address Bhim Rawat, briefed about the life of Padri Ganga Prasad Pradhan, recalling the timeless contributions Rawat said
Padri Ganga Prasad Pradhan was the pioneer of the ‘Gorkha printing press’ and editor of ‘Gorkhey Khabar’ in Darjeeling so from a journalism point of view also his contributions are immense. He also translated the Bible into Gorkhali language. We should not forget that Ganga Prasad gave birth to Gorkha journalism in the region.
While Senior Journalist Nita Nirash speaking on the occasion shared the youth should come forward to take responsibility for programme like this and this event is actually a baton transferring event now youth should come forward remember the great man.
