On the occasion of Swami Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti and under the banner of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit’ Mahotsav, the Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad along with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang visited the Governor’s adopted village – Beng Phegyong GPU under Martam Rumtek constituency, today.
Minister, RDD, Sonam Lama, Minister Agriculture Lok Nath Sharma, MLA Sonam Tshering Venchungpa, Chairman Farmers Welfare Board, Phurden Lepcha, Secretary Agriculture Rinzing Chewang Bhutia, and senior officers of the concerned departments along with District Collector and panchayat members were present on the occasion.
At Kagyud Gumpa Ward, the Governor and the Chief Minister inaugurated a Custom Hiring Centre cum Farm Machinery Bank established by the Agriculture Department in coordination with the panchayats of the Ward. The Modern farming tools worth Rupees ten lakhs have been provided at the Centre by the Agriculture Department under the Farm Mechanization Scheme. The Centre will be run by a local Self Help Group called ‘Sang SHG’, with an active handholding by the Department for training and maintenance. The Department will provide a free subsidy for servicing of the machines up to Rupees Three Thousand per year. The farming machines and tools available are slicer, chainsaw, power tiller, power sprayer, grinding machine, pulveriser, rice huller, ginger dryer, atta chakki, oil expeller, and weighing machine. Farmers of the village can now hire these equipments and also use the services of the Centre.
The Governor and the Chief Minister then inaugurated the renovated building of the Multi Purpose Cooperative Society at Sang Bazar. The building houses multiple facilities, one of which is the Milk Collection Centre. The establishment of the Milk Collection Centre has given impetus to the revival of the historic Sang Khola Milk Producers Cooperative Society Ltd, with the help and support of the Sikkim Milk Union under the guidance of the Cooperation Department, Government of Sikkim.
Likewise, the Governor and the Chief Minister inaugurated a Cash Kendra established at the ground floor of the MPCS building. The Cash Kendra was established in collaboration with Sikkim State Cooperative Bank Ltd (SISCO) and NABARD’s KIOSK Scheme. There was a marked absence of an ATM facility in Sang and its immediate surrounding areas. With the establishment and inauguration of ATM facility, the people of the region can now avail the facility of cash transaction with ease.
Thereafter, the Governor and the Chief Minister, along with other dignitaries, visited the Farm School at Tshalamthang Ward, under Beng-Phegyong GPU. The officials of the Agriculture Department facilitated the demonstration of the integrated organic farming system at the Farm School. The dignitaries also visited the stalls put up by the SHGs and interacted with the members and the farmers. Joint Director, East, Smt. Rachna Gurung presented the progress report and on-going activities under the Farm School and also apprised about the future plan of action.
The Governor and the Chief Minister handed over the Policy Felicitation Letter of ‘Meri Policy Mere Hath’ under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana to the following beneficiaries:
- Passang Norbu Sherpa
- Passang Wangchen Sherpa
- Rinzing Sherpa
- Lha Phurba Sherpa
- Man Maya Rai
- Mingma Lakhi Sherpa
- Chhoti Sherpa.
After the programme at the Farm School, the entourage proceeded towards Topakhani under Sang Khola ward for the inauguration of the Amrit Mahotsav Green Park
