Sikkim Review

Gangtok, Feb 28:

Eco -brick benches made from plastic waste installed in Soreng community centre which was built by Innerwheel club Gangtok. Sikkim government has played a vital role in keeping Sikkim a plastic free stat , keeping that in view Inner wheel Gangtok  have built an Eco-brick bench at Community Health Centre ( CHC) Soreng .

We tried to do this project in Gangtok too but due to some procedural problems we could not execute, in the meantime CHC Soreng had approached us for the same so we made there. It took us hours to explain and convince the mason but eventually the eco- seat came up very nice, the result was absolutely amazing shared Sunita Sirohia, Exceutive Member of Innerwheel organisation.

She also informed that today is on 27th Feb 2022 we had a small inaugural function. The inaugural was done by the constituency level committee President Sukhraj Limboo . He appreciated the project and was kind and gracious enough to give additional support by providing roof/ shade on that eco -bench so that the patients can avail the facility of the shade even when it’s raining or during the night. This gave the club an idea to build a proper eco bench with a shade over it next time. We are already in consultation with Rangpo Nagar Panchayat for creating such eco seats and benches at Rangpo near the check- post .

The message that we want to give out to the community is that if as a community each one of us come together to create such type of eco bricks with the plastic bottles and plastic wastes  at home then we could extend hand in reducing the huge issue of plastic pollution and help in preventing them. These bottles could be handed over to the pre-designated areas and hence these bottles could be used to create benches wherever needed. We all could be a part green revolution initiated by our Chief Minister.

Inner Wheel Club of Gangtok would like to thank the Patronage provided by Madam CM ,Sharda Tamang Constituency Member of Assembly, CLC president, and most of all The InnerWheel Club would like to thank Dawa Zangmu a Social Worker of Uttarey  and her sister ANS CHC Soreng Ms Tashi for making this project a success. They were the ones to encourage the system there. The system has started in Soreng CHC  that they do not throw any plastic waste generated from the CHC ,they collect them and reuse them to fill the plastic bottles. Let us become a part of this project and help in our small ways to create better lives for our future generation appeals Innerwheel.
