All stranded Sikkimese in Ukraine Evacuated

All the Sikkimese students who were stranded in Ukraine have been evacuated safely as last student Mr. Rajat Gupta landed at the Pakyong airport today. 

As per the press release issued by SD Dhakal, Secretary to CM reads “the state government is highly relieved to announce that all the thirty (30) students who were standard in Ukraine have been successfully evacuated and have reached the state safely. The matter relating to their safe evacuation, safety, welfare and future course of action for their continued education was discussed elaborately in the meeting of the cabinet held today at Tashiling Secretariat.” 


It further reads “in this hour of crisis, the State Government closely coordinated with the Government of India to ensure their safe arrival. The state government under the leadership of Honorable chief Minister. P.S. Tamang took active measures to establish contact with all these students to track their location and guide them to safety. A Whatsapp group was created which was closely monitored by the Chief Minister’s Office.” 

Timely financial assistance was also provided along with free arrangement for this stay in Old Sikkim house and travel back to Sikkim from New Delhi. Further, the state government has taken up the issue regarding completion of medical courses of these students within the country with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The Honourable Chief Minister has already written to Honorable Union Health Minister  Mansukh Mandaviya, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to intervene and devise a mechanism so that all these students are helped to complete their course within the country, reads press communique .
