Pugilist from Gangtok, Jayant Dagar, has become the first-ever Sikkimese Boxer to won the Bronze Medal in 54 kg Wt. Category in the Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships, recently concluded in Amman’s Capital, Jordan from 3rd March to 15 March 2022.

 

In quarter final bout, Jayant defeated Kyrgyzstan boxer, Pansher Aliahkmed by narrow score of 3:2 points and confirmed Bronze Medal for India. Whereas, in Semi-final, Jayant lost against Thailand’s boxer, Thanaphansakon Kalaseeram by 4:1 point. Kalaseeram won the first-ever Gold Medal for his country. Jayant will be returning to Gangtok on 24th March.

Chief Minister  Prem Singh Tamang has joined the people of Sikkim in congratulating the young boxer for his unique feat and for bringing laurels to the State of Sikkim. 

The Chief Minister has said that this is the start of a journey filled with endless possibility for Jayant. He has wished that he continues to achieve greater milestones and have an illustrious career in boxing.
