SIKKIM REVIEW

Gangtok, July 28:

One nation one Ration Card (ONORC) a flagship scheme of Government of India and automation of Fair Price Shops of the State through e-PoS devices was launched by the Chief Minister of Sikkim  Prem Singh Tamang today . The programme was launched in the presence of the Minister, Food & Civil Supplies and UD&HD Department, Arun Upreti advisors, Secretaries at Samman Bhawan.

ONORC scheme of Government of India is to bring about reform in the Public Distribution System thereby providing facility for nationwide portability of Ration Card for eligible Ration Card holders under Nation Food Security Act, 2013 which allows them to lift their PDS entitlement from any part of the country. Under the scheme the migrant worker beneficiaries who are always on the move can lift their entitlement of food grains from Fair Price Shops across the country with their existing ration card with Aadhaar Biometric authentication.

Their family members staying in their native village/ home town can also draw balance quota of food grains from the same ration card seamlessly. Keeping in mind the poor network connectivity in some far flung areas of the State of Sikkim and to ensure that the e-PoS devices work properly, e-PoS devices can be used on hybrid or partial offline/ online mode. In dark zone areas where there is no network connectivity, offline solution has been developed so that device can work without network connectivity also.

Use of e-PoS devices will promote transparency and accountability in the Public Distribution System. During the launch of ONORC scheme and automation of FPS in the state, the Chief Minister handed over token receipts for distribution of PDS items to the ONORC , AAY & PHH beneficiaries of the East district . DCSOs of North, South & West districts Headquarters handed over the token receipts to AAY & PHH beneficiaries in their respective districts who had joined the launch program virtually. The Chief Minister directed the Department of Food & Civil Supplies to use e-PoS devices judiciously and to make the department more transparent, accountable to ensure that eligible beneficiaries under NFSA get their PDS items every month without fail.
