Yoga Day Observed At Raj Bhawan

The Seventh International Day of Yoga was observed in the presence of Governor, Ganga Prasad, here at Raj Bhawan, Gangtok, today.

The programme was organised by Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Gangtok, Sikkim under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt of India, New Delhi.

The  Governor was accompanied by Secretary to the Governor, Raj Yadav, AYUSH, Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Sikkim, Director Incharge, Dr. Shriprakash, Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Gangtok, Sikkim, Research Officer, Dr. S.K. Sahu, Research Officer, Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Sikkim, Dr. Rahul D Ghusa, Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Co-ordinator, Sikkim, Shri Hemant Yadav, members and Yoga instructors from Regional Ayurveda Research Institute and officials of Raj Bhawan.

During the programme, the Yoga asanas were administered by Dr. Rahul Ghusa to the participants. The programme also included felicitation by the Hon’ble Governor to select members of Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Gangtok, Sikkim.

The idea for an International Day of Yoga was first proposed by  Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. This initiative was backed by as many as 177 nations and the day (21st June) is being celebrated as International Day of Yoga since then.

The International Day of Yoga 2021 which was observed today had the theme “Yoga for well-being”, much applicable to the current situation where the society is still recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. IPR
